Danielle's back!!

Danielle just got back from Costa Rica with Zach's family. Zach is the oldest of five(?) should know that by now but all I know is she's back safe & sound. I talked to her on Sunday and they had a good time. Who wouldn't?

Returning to chidhood.

So for the last two weekends Dan & I have taken a Sunday afternoon drive. Today we drove to & through St. Nickolas, Marty, Watkins, South Haven, Fair Haven & Annandale. Comments such as " oh, the corn is just coming up or it's been a good year for the lilacs, or now if you turn right here, it will take you to Richmond" were common place.

We stopped to eat at a Mom & Pop diner in Annandale where there were three men eating in the booth behind us. Their discussion included things such as "I pulled a wood tick off my back yesterday and it still hurts. Yeah. It's been a bad year for wood ticks. Look at that traffic going East. It just gets worse every year. ".

I'm trying to forget that one of the three guys didn't know that West Virginia was a seperate state from Virginia and not just Virginia's capital.

Why childhood? When I was a kid we took Sunday drives.

I'm not quite sure how Dan & I or whether Dan & I will continue with this ritual, but for now it is at least something to blog about.

Oh. And Mom, if you read this, I will expect to hear what you and Dad talked about & whether or not you put that Sunday, rolled rump roast in the oven before or after the drive. :)

I have officially decided I love my team.

It's official. I love my kids and my team. I am still excited to teach that science and discovering new things is an absolutely spine tingling experience and that curiosity rules the universe.

Through thick and thin this school year, I have hung in there and not given up on the goodness of kids, adults and parents ( I haven't quite decided whether parents belong in the kid category or adult category) & I've had to let go & let God more this year than many others in the past.

When I was a younger person, I think that I equated "letting go" with "giving up". As a matter of fact, I know that I did. Since I was never a quitter, I rarely let go.

Some people might see this revelation as wisdom. I don't. I'm not sure what it is but that too matters not to me!!! I am enjoying the last weeks with my students and I am proud of that.

What fun!!! What a great group of people! What a confidence builder!!

I'm about to leave for my first group ride.

And I am nervous. First of all, it is windy. I am growing used to wind gusts but it does take more concentration to ride.

Secondly, I am out of Aleve. Damn. I know my wrists will give me trouble.

Finally, it IS my first group ride. How does it work? I know the new riders will be put toward the front. I know there are hand signals (I've gone over them already... they are universal) but so much to keep track of!! Keeping my eye on the road, remembering to shift ; clutch in, one down, 4 up, squeeze the front brake like an orange..., what if I have to make a quick stop or swerve?

Oh Lord. We are meeting at the Ground Round. That is a BIG intersection by the Dairy Queen!! What if Superman is there and he heckles me???????

We are eating. Will I feel hungry? I don't want to eat TOO much!!!!

Maybe I'll just go to lunch , skip the ride & come home. I hope not. I've been looking forward to this & the people seem really nice and accomodating. I'm sure they will put pressure on my gushing wounds. More later. Cross your fingers for me. I'll have to keep mine on the handlebars....

I took the day off ***********ducks head*********** and went on a nice long motorcycle ride****** ducks & weaves******* took a "nice" nap with hubbie****** stands up straight , puts up her dukes and says "Hey!!!! I'm OLD!!!! We NEEDED that!!!! *****

Sits back down , big smile on her face and sighs. I had a great Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jiggy Juice.... I want some.

I saw this on Kare 11 this am:

Jiggy Juice Recipe

3 lemons

3 limes

2 cups Svedka Vodka

1 cup sugar

ice 10-12 straws

Slice lemons and limes into quarters; put into a gallon glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Add Svedka vodka and sugar. Fill with ice, pass from person to person & do the "jiggy" .... shake vigorously for 20 minutes.

Insert straws into jar and enjoy!

Amount: 10-12 servings

Sandwiched in between generations.

E mail from my Mom this morning:

" My biopsies from stomach and the colonoscopy were all fine. However, they found much too much bile in stomach with the upper G.I. scope. So I had an MRI on gallbladder and pancreaous and will have those .results either Mon. or Tues. If the gall bladder is doing something wrong (I'm so good at this medical stuff) I might have to have it removed. Surgeon says you can live nicely without it. Also, if it has to be removed, I will enter hospital at 7:30 a.m. and will be on my way home by noon. Will let you know. Another item: I am going through lots of great photos and you need to warn Jamie that I will sending her a box later this summer. I will try to organize them in some order.
