I have nothing to bitch about...Iraq

My life is a piece of cake. A teacher friend of mine (math) who was my sponsor in baptism in 1985 has experienced some hardship as of late. Her husband was injured in Iraq in May. She just e mailed about 4 of us. Jim was on his last tour...has been in since his 20s.. the Guards or Reserves or something? Some device was attached under the vehicle he was in and 3 were killed in the explosion , one escaped injury & Jim had a severe concussion.

He has been at Walter Reed since then... being treated for PTSD.. is scheduled to come home next month.

They adopted two children from Romania ( that was a harrowing experienec for Jeanette as well!) Thomas and Catherine are now in their twenties.

We get together every now & then. I've left the door open for her to call. She is one of the strongest women I know & it isn't just because Jim is a military man. God picks the right people for the tough jobs I guess.

Thanks guys! It's been 4.5 years since I've had a childless vacation. It's never a true vacation if you're breastfeeding or pregnant. I promise to be safe, for those of you who are worried. I am the big sister, after all. The one who will take care of everyone else and keep them from getting arrested.

Jamie, I hope you don't wind up in the slammer. If you do, I will laugh my ass off.

Holy Halloween crap!

Jamie , Danielle & Jessica are heading to Vegas tonight . They are going to be Madonna... different decades. Jamie has called Jessica THREE TIMES!!! The LAST call? "make sure you bring deoderant and a watch". Cripe. That oldest child thing is shining bright tonight!!!!!!

I have $100 on Jamie drinking 'til she pukes. 32 years old, two kids, hasn't had an "alone" vacation since Connor was born ( 5 years)..... $200. She WILL drink too much!!!

The subject heading: I'm worried

about you. You need to get out of the house more - doing something besides teaching middle school children. Your job is obviously weighing too heavily on your mind. See if you can sign up to volunteer for the Salvation Army. Offer to drive their canteen to disaster calls. You meet a lot of nice policemen and women who are doing jobs that keep their minds and feet on the ground. It might rub off on you. You also could make your latte to serve from the canteen. After a long night of a stand-off with some mentally ill woman who is holding her live-in drug supplier boyfriend at gun point, the officers would really enjoy a jolt of your latte when this real life situation is resolved What I have just described is a reasonable diversion for you to put your life in some kind of perspective. It's a big wonderful world out there. See if you can find it. Volunteering for helping in situations that take place outside your home and school certainly would keep you from being bored and developing pictures like the ones you sent this morning. Care to read this book?

Dan Brown has been on the talk show circuit with this book but if you look at the reviews on Amazon, it only gets a 2.5 of 5 points with over one thousand readers & their opinion of the read. So why all the hype?

I just ordered a used copy of Deception Point for .01 cents (yea Amazon!) based on :

1) It's rating (4.5 stars of 770 readers).

2) It sounds "sciency" & I saw Bill Clinton's name in the editor review.


I'm guessing that I will like DP because I am a science teacher and so will enjoy the subject matter. I am also predicting (but will never have it confirmed) that of the 770 readers who rated DP, many were similar to me in being attracted to it more for the science than the mystery intrigue that so captured my imagination while reading Angels and Demons.


If you have never read The Eight by Katherine Neville? It was written in 1988 and one of the reviewers of it started out by saying:

Before Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, There Was The Eight.

What I remember most about that book? I LOVED it & on a trip to visit my Dad in NC brought it with me to give to him to read. He stuck his nose up in the air and said,"Fiction? I don't read fiction". Besides being hurt (yeah. He was always juuuuuuuuuuuuuust a little better than everyone else) , I remember thinking " Well Whoop-de-do-da-Day!!!!!! "

I think I will now purchase a copy of The Eight... cause I Do LIKE FICTION!
